Our experienced, knowledgeable instructors are here to help you learn safe firearm handling, build confidence, and improve your marksmanship.

NRA Basic Pistol Class

Perfect for beginner to intermediate shooters, this comprehensive course provides formal instruction in firearm safety, handling, and essential shooting fundamentals. Completion of the class also meets Colorado’s training requirement for obtaining a concealed carry permit.


What You’ll Learn

  • The mindset and attitude necessary for responsible firearm ownership
  • The three fundamental rules of gun safety
  • Proper firearm handling and operation
  • Ammunition knowledge, storage, and cleaning
  • Fundamentals of accurate marksmanship
  • Basic legal and moral considerations regarding the defensive use of a firearm


Class Format & Pricing

  • Duration: Eight hours
  • One full Sunday session or
  • Two four-hour evening sessions

  • Cost: $135 per person
  • Included: Firearm, ammunition, manual, eye & ear protection, and range time
  • Lunch break taken off‑site for full‑day sessions


Ladies‑Only or Small Group NRA Basic Pistol Classes

These classes deliver the same curriculum as the co‑ed NRA Basic Pistol course but are offered in a smaller, more personalized settings—designed specifically for women or private groups.

Dan teaches both at our indoor facility and outdoor ranges. With a strong commitment to responsible firearm ownership, Dan specializes in:

  • Basic Pistol Training

He works with students at all experience levels, offering individual and small‑group instruction focused on hands‑on learning, confidence building, and practical, real‑world application. Dan’s teaching emphasizes safety, skill development, and a supportive learning environment.

Colorado now requires a Firearms Eligibility Card and safety training course to purchase specified semiautomatic firearms with detachable magazines, ie. AR-15’s, AK47’s and some other firearms.

 

How to Obtain this “permit to purchase” card.

 

  • Online Application: Create an account and apply through the Firearms Safety System (FSS) managed via Colorado Parks and Wildlife. (CPW administrative fee is $52.00).
  • Sheriff Review & Fees: Provide a government-issued photo ID and name-based background check to your county sheriff's office. (Fees vary by county)
  • Eligibility Card: Upon approval the sheriff issues an Eligibility Card (EC) valid for 5 years.
  • Safety Training & Exam: Complete an in-person course with a verified instructor and pass with a 90% or higher. (Fees are set by the instructors)
  • Basic Course (4 hours): Available if you have a CPW-certified hunter education course.
  • Extended Course (12 hours): Required over at least 2 days if you do not have a certified hunter education course. [1]
  • Firearm purchase: The firearms dealers will verify your completed course and eligibility in the FSS database before finalizing the sale of the specified semiautomatic firearms. An additional Federal background check and a State mandated 3-day cooling-off period also apply.
